I believe what makes this person my Asclepius is because they were the type of person, that in their ordinary sort of way, could captivate an audience for hours. You always felt loved, respected, and their speech was captivating. I can only hope to instill their qualities in my daily life. It would be hard, but with this exercise I feel I can be more like them. I believe what also makes them the perfect Asclepius is because they shared love with others so easily. They we adored by so many because of this and their service to others.
I walked away feeling renewed after a tiring day.
The phrase, "One cannot lead another where one has not gone before" (Schlitz, Amorok, & Micozzi, 2005, p. 477), basically means that we cannot help others if we have not helped ourselves to be well. Put another way, practice what we preach because if we don't then others do not respect or believe what we say. If we appear to have a healthy mind, body, and spirit and explain how we do, then others will be more likely to want to give the practices a try.
In the medical field, patients would expect their providers to be healthy and practice what they preach. It would seem a disservice to patients to not be practicing what we preach. How would one convince a patient to follow doctors orders in order to treat what's ailing them if the doctor or other provider is not well? They wouldn't be able to.
Physiological and spiritual health starts with understanding our mental state and intently practicing several exercises to bring us balance and inner peace and to continuously reevaluate our mental state and other integral health needs. We need to focus within and remove negativity, stresses, and anxiety from our lives.

Hi Elicia,
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you were able to feel renewed after a tiring day. Isn't it wonderful how this class is helping us even if we feel it takes up time?
I truly enjoyed this particular exercise due to the fact that I have been in a funk lately and no matter what I did I just couldn't get out of it. Being able to use this exercise and focus on my father (he has passed on) and along with answering question number 2 on the discussion board I was able to get out of the funk. After going through the exercise I went on date night with hubby and applied all three steps in question 2. Not only did I get out of my funk but I was able to feel closer to my husband once again. It is amazing how helpful this class has been for me and in becoming a wellness coach!
I pray that you have a fantastic week!
Cindy
Thank you Cindy. I hope this week is better. I felt close to my special person because I have missed them in my life too. I think it made it easier because I needed that connection with them.
DeleteThe exercises should help. I hope you have a great week too.
I am happy that you were able to have those feelings of happiness once you were done with the exercise....I cried I have to admit...but it was not from sadness, but from the realization that even though my dad is gone from my physical presence...he is still with me in my heart...That he still lives within me...
ReplyDeleteI have to agree that we have to show clients that even though we have issues...that we have a positive way of working through them...that we are able to keep our mind, body and spirit strong. The ability to reduce the amount of stress in our lives, may be the one item that intrigues them enough to ask or participate in a type of meditation that may work for them as well.
I was able to feel more control of the pain that I am in daily...this was a even bigger plus...since I created the stress fractures in my foot last week...allowing the pain to worked around...and not feeling stoned from the medications that the doctors love to give me!!
Have a great week!!!
Jeni,
DeleteDo you find the exercises helpful in relieving the pain? Does it help make it managable? I had similar experience with my loved one. I found they are close to me even though I felt disconnected from them.
Have a great week!
Elicia, I too did not think that this exercise was very easy. I ended up dwelling more on my mentor then feeling relaxed or renewed. However, I did have some of the same feeling about this person as you did after completing the exercise. I really liked your ideology of what the statement "One cannot lead another where one has not gone before" (Schlitz, Amorok, & Micozzi, 2005, p. 477). I had not thought of the statement meaning that but now after pondering it I feel that it is a exact representation of what the authors were trying to say in the text. It does not take a person to experience a subject to effectively teach it however it does take someone who is willing to help them self’s and do the needed research and or reading on the subject to effectively be able to help someone else who may be experiencing the problem. I feel that doctors and healthcare providers are held on a pedestal by people and expect them to never slip off or indulge in the later or non-healthy activities. However, we all need to remember that they are humans and we all make mistakes and do things we are not proud of. Does this make them any less of a doctor, or make their knowledge of the subject any less than it was? I think not. Thanks Sam
ReplyDeleteSam,
DeleteI couldn't agree more with your closing statements. We do tend to hold the medical field on a pedestal, but I do not believe that they are not human. I guess for me, it's the belief that they should want to take care of themselves and constantly evaluate and redirect themselves to a healthier state of being.
If doctors are not willing to do these things, then it would be difficult for them to help others the same way. We are in constant state of re-evaluation if we are to take on the integral way of life.
Hope you have a good week.
Hi Elicia,
ReplyDeleteWell said. We must be able to believe in and practice what we would ask our patients to do. And just as all humans we will make mistakes, and slip back into away from integral practices. I believe sharing these experiences with our clients will help them see that it is an ongoing practice, as with everything worthwhile in our lives we must continue to work for it. When we falter we pick ourselves up and continue on the journey, never giving up.
